THE NATURE OF PORJECTS

By Elva Lara

The Gold

Starting a business, modifying a product, a new service, or even losing weight can all be considered projects.
Why do some of these projects succeed while others fade into oblivion? First and foremost, they all share a fundamental characteristic: effort.

When it comes to creating something that doesn’t yet exist, it requires extraordinary effort, perseverance, and a consistent approach to achieve the goal.

You can undertake a project with or without a methodology, but it’s always advisable to have a solid strategy, and sometimes, guidance from a coach or consultant can make all the difference.

The Methodology

When you decide to carry out a project, you have a variety of popular methodologies to choose from today. It’s not advisable to use the same methodology for all projects, as each one has its unique aspects.
Fortunately, the diversity of options allows you to select the one that best suits each case and customize it according to your needs.

PMBOOK

One of the traditional methodologies is found in the PMBOOK, developed by the Project Management Institute, which provides a structured approach to project planning, execution, monitoring, and control.

WATERFALL

On the other hand, the Waterfall methodology involves completing one stage before moving on to the next. In this approach, changes to the project should be minimal, unlike Agile, which offers greater flexibility and is ideal for more adaptable projects.

KANBAN

Kanban is a suitable methodology for visual leaders whoneed to control workflow.

LEAN

Finally, Lean is based on waste elimination. All these methodologies share the requirement of having a well-defined goal, a beginning, and an end, just like personal projects.

Remember

It’s always important to keep in mind that a project requires extra effort and proper control of time and resources to ensure success.

Lastly, when you’re ready to make a change, I recommend ensuring you have the necessary resources and time for it to be a success, as abandoning a project makes it very challenging to pick up again.
